The Goats Off

When I was a kid my dad had a couple of sections next to our house and to keep the grass down we had a Goat. The Goat had a collar attached to a chain which was attached to some no.8 wire strung between 2 waratah stakes. He also had a box for a house and us kids delivered it a bowl of water when we remembered.

The most repeated words in our house were “the Goats off”. We would come home from school and yell at Mum “the goats off” or she would be on the phone to dad “the Goats off” or dad would come home from his run and announce “the Goats of”. It meant all hands were required to track down the escaped Goat and catch it! The catching bit was hilarious and really quite tricky. He never went far, maybe to someone’s vegetable garden or up the road to visit the Nanny Goat but the point was that he could be free.

I have recently grown to appreciate the goats intense desire for freedom and his rebellion against stupid restrictions on his life.

Anyway, I’m a Goat and I can’t believe how many sheep there are who enable the stupidity of our politicians. So, my purpose is to bleat, stir up the sheep and maybe break free.
